Arsonists torch derelict building in Nuneaton

Fire chiefs have asked that if anyone sees someone acting suspiciously around an empty building they call the police

Arsonists are believed to be behind a blaze at an empty home in Nuneaton.

Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service fire control received the first of what would be five 999 calls at 10.02am today reporting a derelict house fire on Hillcrest Road near to Edinburgh Road.

Three fire engines from Atherstone, Polesworth and Bedworth were sent to the scene.

Firefighters found the fire in the first floor front bedroom of the derelict property and used breathing apparatus, hose reels and main jets to extinguish the fire.

They remained at the scene for more than an hour, damping down the building.

Officers have said that the fire was started deliberately and have appealed that if anyone is seen acting suspiciously around derelict buildings, people should call Warwickshire Police on 101.
