A disturbance in Coventry last night saw shoppers locked in a Sainsbury's supermarket.
Staff at the Sainsbury's Local locked the doors as a mob of youths took over the west end of Far Gosford Street.
One witness claimed the group were wielding knives, but the men had dispersed by the time police reached Far Gosford Street and no arrests were made.
Police added that nobody was hurt.
The disturbance is believed to have taken place in the vicinity of the Empire Club and the Sainsbury's Local where shoppers found themselves locked in.
One witness said: "There was an incident going on in Gosford Street outside Empire and Sainsbury’s - youths with knives. Several police were in attendance with armed response and public order vans, with dogs.
"The road was temporarily closed."
A Sainsbury’s spokesperson told CoventryLive: “We can confirm an incident took place outside our Coventry Far Gosford Street store last night. Thankfully no customers or colleagues were harmed."
