A 12-year-old cat had to have her leg amputated after being shot in Nuneaton .

Fifi, a tortoiseshell moggy, returned home hobbling and with a bullet wound after she was shot by a pellet gun on Monday morning.

Her owner, who did not want to be named, said she appeared with the devastating injuries after being let out in the early hours between 5.30am and 8am.

She is now warning other cat owners to keep their moggies inside overnight in case the shooters are still out there targeting animals in the Abbey Green area.

Fifi was taken straight to the vets when she appeared with the pellet wound.

Her owner told CoventryLive: "She still can't put her legs down.

"The first time I took her to the vets she was given pain relief and then she also needed an X-ray to see where the pellet was.

"There was a pellet still lodged in her arm and it had shattered.

"They couldn't save it.

"Considering she's had 12 years on four legs it is going to be hard for her to adjust."

Fifi's owner said she was not the only animal targeted in the town earlier this week.

She said two pigeons had also been shot in the Abbey Green area, and one of her neighbour's cats had also been injured.

"I'm trying to keep her in today but she loves going out and I don't really want to stop her going out," Fifi's owner added.

If you spot anyone who appears to be targeting animals, call police on 101.
