The snooker cue that led to armed police drama in Coventry
Police have revealed what led to a car being surrounded by armed police in Coventry on Wednesday evening.
Dramatic pictures showed a number of officers pointing their guns at a silver Ford Focus in Yardley Street, Hillfields, at around 8.30pm.
At least two people can be seen lying on the ground, while another officer stands nearby with a police dog on a lead.
Mystery had surrounded the incident, but now CoventryLive can reveal that the source of the commotion was...a snooker cue.
A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We were called at 8.25pm on June 18 to reports of a man seen with a shotgun.
"Details were given and officers followed the car and it was pulled over and we detained four men.
"A search of the vehicle was made and no gun was recovered, but instead what was believed to be a snooker cue."
The detained men were released with no action taken.
