West Midlands Fire Service were called to a fire on Windmill Road, Coventry, last night (Monday 25).

The fire was allegedly sparked by poorly maintained ‘DIY electrics’ in the property.

The crew sent to manage the blaze found an extensive farm on the lower floor next to the faulty electrics.

A spokesperson said: “Fire in house on Windmill Road now extinguished.

“DIY electrics is never wise and puts lives at serious risk.

“Luckily no one was hurt in this fire, only the plants that they were growing.”

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “We were called at 7.55pm on Monday. We discovered 80 cannabis plants.

“The owners of the property have not yet been traced.

“The property has been analysed for finger prints and forensics have now been lifted.”
