Two teenagers have been arrested following a serious disturbance in Stoke which saw youths armed with machetes and hammers.
The incident happened at around 4.30pm on Walsgrave Road, close to the KFC restaurant.
Armed police attended the scene, along with uniformed officers and paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service.
A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “Police were called to a disorder in Walsgrave Road, Coventry just after 4.30pm today (Wednesday 6 June).
“Armed police attended after several reports of teens armed with machetes and hammers.
“Two teens received head injuries which are not thought to be life threatening, and have been taken to hospital for treatment.”
Initially the police spokesman said no arrests had been made but added that extra officers would be patrolling the area in the aftermath of the incident to reassure local residents.
However two youths were subsequently arrested by police.
As part of this afternoon’s police operation the force helicopter was seen hovering in the sky for a time.
There was also major traffic disruption in the area with motorists facing lengthy delays.
