A man found guilty of attempted murder after throwing his girlfriend out of a fourth-floor window has been jailed.

Iain MacLachlan Sim has today (June 4) been sentenced to 20 years at Coventry Crown Court after a violent argument ended with MacLachlan Sim hurling his then partner from the window of the maisonette.

MacLachlan Sim, 28, of Eden Court, Lillington, Leamington, was previously found guilty by a majority verdict and was warned to prepare himself for "a very long sentence indeed".

While considering the sentence he would give to Sim, Judge Lockhart said considering the guidelines he found the offence fell into category three, intent to kill.

He said: “This was an offence under the influence and there have been past threats with another girlfriend.

“Two women have been targeted by you, in the four month period. Both were threatened with knives.

"You are in denial but you are a danger to women you are in a relationship with. You are dangerous.”
Sentencing

Judge Andrew Lockhart gave Sim an extended sentence of 20 years - 16 years custodial and four years on licence.

He was also given a restraining order against his victim, meaning he cannot directly or indirectly contact her for 20 years.
