A scout leader has been left "extremely annoyed" after equipment was stolen from a scout hut over the Bank Holiday weekend.

The incident is thought to have happened at Whitley Scout Hut on Abbey Road some time between 12pm on Saturday, May 5, and 6pm on Tuesday, May 8.

Children currently working towards their chef's badge have been left disappointed and upset that they won't be able to complete it anytime soon.

It comes after thieves broke in and stole vital equipment from the kitchen.

Scout Leader Claire Preston, said it is disgusting what has happened and the children cannot do their badges due to the theft.

She said: "It happened between Saturday and Tuesday over the Bank Holiday weekend.

"We think it happened on Monday as one of the neighbours heard a noise from the scout hut.

"We were awarded a grant two years ago, and we had a new kitchen so the kids could earn their badges.

"I am extremely annoyed.

"It took us quite a while to get a crime number too from police as they couldn't come out to us straight away.

"I asked them if I was expected to leave glass from the broken window lying around when I was due to have the kids in the building.

"They eventually came out two days after it happened.

"I am absolutely disgusted with police."

Claire has said she doesn't want the items back, even if the thieves return the items.

She told CoventryLive someone needs to pay for the crimes.

Claire added: "Someone has stolen from kids.

"I want them to pay for the crimes they committed.

"I don't want those items after those scumbags have had their mitts on them.

"The kids were nervous when they saw a broken window and police, but when we got them settled, they calmed down.

"They are disappointed the things are missing. Some of them were just about to do their chef badge and now they can't do it."

Claire added that she feels, as a resident of Whitley, crime levels are increasing.

She told us: "There is a massive problem in the area.

"As a resident of Whitley there is an increase in crime.

"We are next to Willenhall too, who have also been experiencing problems."
