A woman remains in intensive care a month after breaking her neck at a Bedworth pub.

The environmental health team at Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council is leading the probe after what has been described as a ‘sad and distressing’ incident at the Cricketers Arms.

A woman, who is aged 61, was found at the bottom of the cellar stairs, semi-conscious and suffering from serious injuries.

She remains in hospital with a broken back and neck.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) spokesperson confirmed that they responded to a 999 call at 8.51am on Sunday, April 8.

“A woman in her 60s had a reduced level of consciousness and was in a serious condition after being found at the bottom of a flight of stairs,” the WMAS spokesperson said.

“The ambulance crews administered trauma care on scene before the woman was taken by land ambulance on blue lights to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire for further emergency care.”

The woman remains in a critical condition at the hospital.

Police are not involved in investigation

A spokesperson for Warwickshire Police said: “I can confirm that 10.02am on April 9 we received a report that a 61-woman had been found collapsed and with head injuries in a business premises on Nuneaton Road, Bedworth.

“The woman was taken to hospital by ambulance where she was treated for serious neck injuries.

"There is an 'adult protection investigation' taking place with partner agencies.”

As the licensing authority, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council is leading the ‘adult protection’ investigation.

Ian Powell, director of regeneration and public protection at the Town Hall, said: “We are aware of an accident at The Cricketers’ Arms, which has been the subject of investigations by the police and a health and safety inspector from the council’s Environmental Health team.

“The council continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding this very sad and distressing incident.”
