Swanky flats plan for former working men's club building in Coventry

A former Coventry working men’s club is set to be transformed into swanky flats.

Work is already underway at the former Vauxhall Working Men’s Club in Foleshill, which will be converted into 11 new flats.

The development, which will be let and managed by local estate agents Loveitts, includes a mixture of one and two-bedroom apartments.

The project was given the green light by Coventry City Council, with work almost complete.

It will see the old social club in Eld Road, which was built and started as a working men’s club in 1910, undergo an extensive facelift.

The work is being carried out by Jaskaran Aujla, who took over the running of the club in 2000.

A number of flats have already been let at the new development and tenants are set to move in shortly.

The development has been hailed a boost for the city by Paul Barnes, director of Coventry-based Loveitts.

He said: “This is a fantastic development for the city and will provide 11 high-quality apartments in a prime location in Coventry.

“We are delighted to have the opportunity of letting the apartments as well as being appointed managers of the site which we believe will be a major boost to the area.

“The Vauxhall Working Men’s Club was a much-loved venue which served the Foleshill community for many years.

“This new development will enable this two-storey Victorian building to remain at the heart of the local region.”

Mr Barnes said the development was an example of a growing trend for converting disused pubs and clubs into homes or businesses.
