Witness appeal... police believe there were people around at the time of the incident
A DOG walker was hit over the head with a piece of wood before being punched in the face by thugs in Nuneaton.
The attackers even kicked one of the dogs in the head during the disturbing incident which started in Pool Bank Street recreation ground and ended in Manor Court Road.
Police say that the victim, who has not been identified but is aged in his 50s, was walking his dogs in the recreation ground when two men spoke to him about them.
The pair followed him as he walked back in the direction of St Mary's Church and one of the thugs kicked one of the dogs, before hitting the victim on the head with a piece of wood.
One of the suspects then followed the man to Manor Court Road, hitting him again on his arm, before the second man punched the victim in the head and caused him to fall to the ground.
While on the ground, the suspects are reported to have attempted to pull the dog chain from the victim's grip before a member of public stepped in.
Officers believe that several people were in the area at the time, between 5.20pm and 5.30pm on Thursday , July 27, and may have witnessed the incident, including a vehicle that stopped close to the victim on Manor Court Road.
The victim was taken to hospital with what were reported to be minor head injuries.
Investigating officers are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them and ask anybody with information to call 101, quoting incident number 289 of July 27.
