WITNESSES are key to catching thugs who launched a savage attack on a young boy in a Nuneaton park

The youngster was left with serious injuries to his face following the attack in a park off Raveloe Drive, known locally as the 'george' park, last night (Thursday, August 3).

His distraught family friends have posted images on social media in a bid to highlight the severity of the attack and help the appeal to catch the culprits.

According to unconfirmed reports on social media say he was attacked by three teens and he begged them to stop, but they continued their attack.

They then 'left him for dead' and a member of the public found him and raised the alarm

Investigating officers want to hear from anyone who know anything about the attack, which left the schoolboy needing treatment at the University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.

Family friends have posted images on social media in a bid to highlight the severity of the attack and help the appeal to catch the cuplrits.

In a post Kim Needham wrote: "So yesterday every mother's nightmare came true.

"My friend's son came home battered to the point he was unrecognisable!

"This young boy was attacked by three lads, he repeatedly told them he wasn't a fighter and begged them to stop.

"He was told they wanted to kill him and then was dragged out of sight of everyone so they could continue to beat him.

"As you can imagine he was petrified.

"He was battered to point that he was unconscious and then then left him for dead!

"Luckily he was found by a member of the public.

"This happened last night between 6 and 7pm in Hilltop, Nuneaton."

Warwickshire Police said investigations were at an early stage but they are asking anyone with any information to call 101, quoting incident number 352 of August 3, or the Crimestoppers hotline, which is free to call from a landline and confidential, on 0800 555 111.
