PATROLLING cops stumbled upon a wanted man and it led to a chase along a main route into Nuneaton town centre.

Officers spotted a suspect in Edward Street yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, July 25) and made moves to arrest him.

However, he fled along Queens Road so officers called for back-up.

A riot van pulled in front of the entrance to Bracebridge Street as officers chased the man on foot and eventually caught up with him.

He was arrested for failing to appear at Leamington Magistrates Court following an alleged incident on Vicarage Street in Nuneaton on Sunday, July 2.

But the suspect was not taken straight into custody.

Officers were concerned for his welfare so called for help from West Midlands Ambulance Service, who sent a community paramedic to the scene.

He was checked over by a medic but it was police officers who took him to hospital.

A spokesperson for Warwickshire Police Force said:"We will be looking to make arrangements for him to attend court in due course."
