A NUNEATON schoolgirl was inspired to lose her long locks to help young cancer sufferers.
Esme Davies agreed to have 12 inches of her long blond hair cut off to be donated to the Little Princess Trust, which will use it to make wigs for children who have lost their hair to illness.
Her proud mum Heidi Davies explained: "It was about one year ago, she had a friend do a similar thing and she was inspired to do it, she also knows a little girl who had a brain tumour and has had chemotherapy and that caused her to lose her hair. Her hair was very long, down to her bum and Esme wanted to do something to help others.
"She could have done it last year but we wanted to let it grow a little bit longer so we could get as much hair as possible."
Esme, who turned eight last month, now has a short bob style: "It is very, very short now but she (Esme) loves it," Mrs Davies said.
"I have got longish hair and I thought 'she's got some guts' – I am so, so proud of her."
As well as donate hair to the charity, the St Nicolas C of E Academy student also raised money as it costs the charity £500 to make just one wig.
"We did a justgiving page for close family and friends, we didn't advertise it, and it raised £370," Mrs Davies explained. Esme is the youngest of three children and has two older brothers, including Sam, aged 15, who is severely disabled.
"I think that growing up around Samuel and attended charity dos, she (Esme) is a really aware of the importance of helping people," Heidi said.
"She is such a kind girl and we are all so proud of her."
