Wait.... due to high demand, the council's bulky waste service has a six week waiting list
A COUNCIL bulky waste collection service has been branded 'rubbish' as householders across Nuneaton and Bedworth face a SIX WEEK waiting list.
Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council offers residents the chance to have large items, such as sofas, collected from outside their homes for a fee.
But a householder, who did not want to be identified, contacted the News to express their anger at the long waiting list.
"I phoned the council to sort out a bulky waste collection and they said they cannot do it until June 20, that's six weeks away," she fumed.
"It's no wonder that some people resort to fly-tipping if you have to wait so long.
"I know that the council is busy but this is a chance for them to make some money, sure if they are so busy they could get more people working on it. It's rubbish!"
A Town Hall spokesperson admitted that there is currently a high demand for the service but stressed that resorting to fly-tipping is not the solution.
"Our Bulky Waste Collection Service, which is an extremely low cost service due to the subsidy the council provides to its running costs, is in high demand across the borough, and we have to try to allocate our limited resources to meet this. Sadly we currently have waiting times for collections.
"We will endeavour to collect your bulky waste as soon as we can, but if you need it collected sooner, we recommend you seek an accredited private sector company to assist you."
He concluded: "Fly tipping is not the answer as householders have a legal responsibility for ensuring waste from their properties is disposed of properly."
