Thief sent to prison after hitting Next and Co-op stores in Coventry

Sat Apr 08, 2017 9:32 pm

A Hillfields man was sent to prison after stealing meat from a city store just days after being given a suspended sentence for another theft

Andrew Williams was given a chance by Coventry magistrates after stealing £68 worth of clothing from Next in Lower Precinct on February 22.

But the 38-year-old was then caught nicking meat from a Co-op store on February 25 and that triggered the suspended sentence handed down for the first offence.

When Williams, of Paul Stacey House, Hillfields, pleaded guilty to the Co-op theft he was given six weeks behind bars for that crime and a further six weeks imposed from the suspended sentence, making a total of 12 weeks in prison.

He also had to pay a £115 victim surcharge.
