Jonathan Cave, owner of Caves, could not believe his eyes when he turned up to the popular green grocers on Monday morning (March 6) to find that his store had been broken into.

He was then staggered to watch CCTV footage which showed the burglars heading straight for the safe, which he told the News contained a large amount of money.

"They knew exactly what they were looking for," he said.

"They went straight for the safe, it is like they knew exactly where it was, they were in and out within thirty seconds."

It is the first time in 25 years that the shop, which now also boats a café, has been targeted.

"I know that there have been a lot of break-ins in the area recently," he said.

"Things are going really well for us at the moment, but it is hard to survive with business rates, rents and wages, it is a bit of a kick in the teeth when you work so hard and these people just come along and take everything you work so hard for."

The businessman has admitted that the break-in, which happened at around 1.30am, was 'kick in the bum' he needed to step up security.

"This made me realise that I did need to look at things in the shop and these have all now been resolved," he added.

Jonathan has posted the CCTV footage online in a bid to catch the thieves: "If someone recognises them and tells the police and we get a prosecution, I will give them a large reward,£ he added.

A spokeswoman for Warwickshire Police Force confirmed that officers are investigating and added that anyone with any information should call police on 101, quoting incident 25 of March 6.

Details can also be passed on confidentially by calling the Crimestoppers hotline, which is free to call from a landline and confidential, on 0800 555 111.
