Plans have been submitted to demolish a Coventry garage and replace it with a three-storey student accommodation block.

The proposal is to bulldoze the Lota Garage at 83 Gulson Road and build a new 34-bedroom apartment complex.

The planning application has been submitted to Coventry City Council by Kenilworth-based CDRB Architects, acting as agents for the owner of the garage, Mr Lota.

It says the building would be of red brick to match the local area, have a slate tiled roof and feature grey uPVC windows and grey aluminium doors.

The scheme also proposes extensive cycle storage with the erection of a two-tier Bristol cycle shelter with space for 20 bicycles.

In the plans submitted each of the three floors features a number of en-suite bedrooms, along with communal lounge/kitchen areas. The ground floor also features an office.

The plans also detail a garden/buffer area to the rear and an outdoor amenities area.

Also included is a bin store and the development would have a timber fence to the rear and black metal railings and gates.

Lota Garage is long-established family-owned vehicle servicing, repair and MOT centre.

On its website the company says: “We have been established for over 25 years based in the heart of Coventry, specialising in MOTs for any vehicles, diagnostics, A/C re-gas, and general repairs to all types of vehicles.”

The Gulson Road garage location is close to the main Coventry University campus.
