Warwickshire Police has revealed that Adam Matthew Johnson, aged 29, from Tudor Road, Nuneaton, has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of Michael Wood.

The 72 year-old died in Tudor Road, Nuneaton, on Friday, March 25.

Johnson, who was charged on Saturday (January 21) will appear at Leamington Magistrates' Court on March 1.

As previously reported by the News, Mr Wood's family described him as a 'sincerely kind, clever and thoughtful' man.

In a statement released by his family, it read: "Michael Alexander Watson Wood, known as Mick to family and friends, was born in Tamworth on 5 July 1943.

"Mick worked for firms such Dunlop, Hamels and Drayton Croft in his early career; and later became a self-employed motorcycle mechanic.

"Mick's lifetime passion for motorcycles meant he continued to work on them past retirement age as his knowledge of older bikes was regarded as invaluable. Mick was a keen golfer for many years, and was a member of Atherstone golf club where he scored a hole in one, although arthritis made golfing impossible for him in later years.

"An intelligent man both intellectually and practically Mick came recently in the last decade or so to love computers and typically taught himself to build his own; 'tech savvy' is how his eldest grandson Chris described him.

"Mick moved to Nuneaton in 2002 to live closer to his eldest daughter Helen and her family. He liked to live quietly with his beloved lurcher Alfie and rescue cat Frankie, enjoying his favourite TV programmes and films or listening to music where his taste ranged from classical to prog rock. Mick's family, daughters Helen and Hilary, grandchildren Chris, Nick, Kathryn and Carla, great grandchildren Jenna, Josh, Connor and Ella-Mae are devastated by their loss and the circumstances surrounding his death."

One of his granddaughter's Kathryn paid her own personal tribute, saying: "My grandad was a sincerely kind, clever and thoughtful man, always there for us, never judgemental and would do anything he could to help anyone."
