Co-op food stores to undergo multi-million pound refurbishments

Co-op stores across Coventry and Warwickshire are set to get a major upgrade as a result of a multi-million pound investment programme.

The Heart of England Co-operative Society has announced a swathe of major investments in its food stores across the region over the next year.

The biggest single project is the rebuilding of Rugby’s Long Lawford store at a cost of £1.3m but refurbishments are planned across the society’s regional portfolio.

The investment is part of an ongoing commitment to upgrade and improve the Co-op’s network of stores across Coventry, Warwickshire, south Leicestershire and Northamptonshire .

Among the sites set to be transformed over the next 12 months is the Heart of England Co-operative Society’s Coventry store in Willenhall which will undergo a £700,000 refurbishment to split it into three separate units.

Once completed, the 5,800 sq ft building will feature a new pharmacy, a smaller food store – which will enjoy longer opening hours on Sundays – and a third unit, which is set to be marketed for retail purposes.

A further sum in the region of £100,000 will be invested in the Society’s Warwick Gates store in Cressida Close as well as an investment of £250,000 in a new IT system to underpin the continued growth strategy. There are also plans in the pipeline for two new food stores in the Coventry region.
