Neck A Munter promotion labelled "sexist"

The venue has hit back at "moral police"

A Coventry nightclub has defended itself after it became embroiled in a sexism row.

The Kasbah has been condemned as “sexist” and slammed for “encouraging non-consensual sexual contact” by a local students’ union.

At the centre of the row is the nightclub’s competition labelled Kiss Cam promoted during its Kinky Friday night events.

The idea is that clubbers can win free drinks by kissing when they are pictured on the big screen.

The nightclub tweeted the promotion on November 11 with the message: “Rules are simple - get yourself on the big screen & neck on to win some free drinks! Tag a mate who would neck a munter for a free drink!”

But the promotion and the use of the disparaging term ‘munter’ was branded sexist by Warwick Students’ Union .

A spokesman said: “The SU thoroughly condemns the nightclub’s Kiss Cam stunt, which encourages non-consensual sexual contact, the use of free alcohol as an incentive and sexist language in its promotion.

“Though such measures sadly shouldn’t be necessary, we would urge all students to be active bystanders and challenge this behaviour wherever possible.”

But the nightclub, on Primrose Hill Street , hit back branding the students’ union self-appointed “moral police”.

A spokesman for Kasbah told the Telegraph: “The Kiss Cam is a fun event which has been used extensively at sports event especially in America to enhance the ‘fun’ in a social gathering.

“We first introduced it as a part of our club night last academic year and it went down a storm. The students loved it. No one was hurt or felt humiliated or saw any reason to complain.

“Now we have a few individuals who have taken it upon themselves to become the moral police and put their own twisted negative depraved interpretation on what is nothing more than students having fun on a night out in a controlled environment.

"Not only that but the venue has four rooms and the Kiss Cam event itself is only in one of the rooms so if a person feels uncomfortable then they can step into one of the other areas.

“The promotional material was actually written by one of our female promotional staff and nowhere is there a suggestion that anyone, male or female, should force themselves on another individual.

"To take the view that this encourages men to somehow attack females for a kiss is itself sexist and rather demeaning towards men. The complainers in this case all appear to be pushing their own personal agendas.

“The female writer only asks the question ‘would you kiss a munter for a drink?’ How that becomes encouragement to commit an attack on another person is beyond my understanding.”

We've become a sterile and characterless society with all this PC nonsense.

I remember the 'grab a granny' nights well. Many an older lady and a younger man had a good time there.
