The man allegedly threatened to stab officers before climbing on the roof and throwing tiles
A man has been arrested after a two-day rooftop stand-off with police in Coventry.
The 23-year-old, who was wanted for recall to prison, was arrested at 9.30am today on suspicion of criminal damage and assaulting a police officer.
According to unconfirmed reports, the man, who had spent the night on the roof of a property in William McKee Close, Binley, climbed down a lamp-post and surrendered himself to police.
The man had climbed onto the roof at around 1pm yesterday afternoon when a police went to execute a warrant for a pre-planned arrest.
West Midlands Police have said that the man locked himself in the attic during that initial attempted arrest.
A statement from the force said: “It’s alleged he later made threats to stab officers who were trying to detain him and then emerged on the roof of the house holding a knife.”
Yesterday reports were received that the man had been ripping up roof tiles and throwing them at police.
A police spokesman said: “Two police officers suffered minor injuries after being struck by roof tiles. Two police cars were also damaged.”
Specialist negotiators were called to the scene and worked throughout the day and night to try and talk the man down.
Nearly a dozen emergency service vehicles were in attendance over the 21 hour stand-off, including three police vans, a West Midlands Fire Service hydraulic lift and fire engine, two ambulances and a police dog crew.
Residents also reported hearing a police helicopter, without searchlights, hovering over the area during the early hours.
Residents of Quorn Way and William McKee Close were left unable to get to their homes as a police cordon closed off most of the road.
The number 13 bus service was diverted until this morning, however some buses that had travelled down the road before the official diversions were put in place were forced to make tight U-turns.
Police have now thanked residents for their help and patience during the protest.
Chf Insp Harvi Khatkar said: “We appreciate the massive impact on the local community and are grateful for their support and patience yesterday and this morning.”

If they were owned by Whitefriars it could be the tenants who have to pay even if they have no connection with the protester.

But don't expect it to happen with the lilly livered judiciary and do-gooders we have in society.![]()
