Police puncture tyres of speeding car after chase through Nuneaton estates

Sun Jul 24, 2016 4:55 pm

Traffic police had to puncture the tyres of a speeding car following a chase through several Nuneaton estates.

Householders reported being woken to the sounds of a police helicopter circling the Tuttle Hill area early Friday morning.

It has been revealed that the helicopter was scrambled to the area to help police track down a silver Peugeot which had failed to stop.

According to Operational Patrol Unit (OPU) Warwickshire on Twitter, they initially tried to stop the vehicle in Whittleford Road.

But the driver ignored the police and a chase ensued through Galley Common and into Camp Hill.

OPU officers used a spike strip, known as a stinger, to puncture the car’s tyres and it eventually came to a stop in Queen Elizabeth Road.

They arrested the driver, who has not been identified, for no insurance, dangerous driving and failing to stop.

He was also subject to drugs swab and tested positive for cocaine and cannabis.

The suspect was taken into Nuneaton Police Station for questioning while his car was seized.
