Out-of-control dog that injured woman could be destroyed, court orders

Wed Jul 20, 2016 2:07 pm

A dog owner has been ordered to pay £1,000 compensation after his dangerously out-of-control dog injured a woman.

Gulshiraz Khan was also told his Japanese Akita named Rocky would be destroyed unless he met a list of strict conditions.

The 32-year-old, of Allesley Old Road, Chapelfields , had denied a charge of being the owner of a dog which was dangerously out of control in the same street on January 1.

However, he was found guilty at Coventry Magistrates Court and was told to pay £1,000 to the victim as well as £250 court costs.

The magistrates also ordered that Rocky must be destroyed unless Khan agrees to: insure Rocky for third party liability on an annual basis; microchip Rocky and register him to the home address; keep the dog on a lead no longer than two metres all at times in public; keep Rocky muzzled at all times in public; and the rear garden must have a minimum six-foot perimeter fence to prevent escape.

Strange, I can't find any such report of a woman being attacked by a dog in January?

I have a Japanese Akita. They certainly need careful and firm handling. They aren't a 'first time' dog, or suitable for inexperienced owners. Sadly, many are used as 'trophy' dogs, rather like Staffies; and that spoils it for the genuine owners.
