Driver jailed after high-speed chase through Coventry streets

A driver who hit speeds of nearly 70mph as he took police on a chase through the streets of streets of Coventry has been jailed.

Lee Robert Stuart was already disqualified from driving when he was seen speeding around Holbrooks in a Fiat Punto.

Police tried to stop his car but he zoomed off, cut through red lights and even drove on the wrong side of the road as he tried to evade capture.

The 23-year-old, of Whitworth Avenue, Stoke Aldermoor, was clocked doing speeds of 68mph in Rotherham Road, which has a speed limit of 30mph, at around 12.15pm on May 4.

Stuart then abandoned the car before trying to flee.

He was arrested and appeared at Coventry Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified, driving without insurance and dangerous driving.

He was sent to prison for six months and also banned from driving for three years. He was also ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge.

I somehow doubt another ban will trouble him.
