Classic convertible crash in Coventry leaves two men seriously injured

Two men were badly hurt when their classic convertible was involved in a crash in Coventry.

The accident happened in Browns Lane, Allesley, at around 11.30pm on Saturday.

According to emergency service reports, two cars were involved in the collision leaving a man in his 50s and a man in his 60s medically trapped.

Police, paramedics and ten fire fighters were all called to the scene.

The two men who suffered a series of injuries to their upper bodies were taken to University Hospital.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We got a call to a road traffic collision just before 11.30pm.

“Two people from one car were injured: a man in his 50s and a man in his 60s.

“The driver suffered a head injury. The passenger had chest, face and limb injuries.

“They were not in a great condition when conveyed to hospital.”

One of the drawbacks of owning a classic car is that you don't get the same level of crash protection that you get with modern vehicles.

Tributes to 'dear great grandad' who died after Coventry vintage car crash

A man has died after the vintage car he was in collided with a parked car on Saturday night.

Police say great-grandad Philip Chadwick was a passenger in the 1967 MG Midget that hit an unattended Ford Fiesta in Browns Lane, near to the junction with Washbrook Lane in Allesley at 11.30pm.

Mr Chadwick and another man suffered a series of injuries to their upper bodies and were taken to University Hospital , Walsgrave .

The 63-year-old died three days later in hospital.

The driver, who police say is a 58-year-old local man, is still in hospital.

A tribute released on behalf of Mr Chadwick’s family reads: "A dear dad, grandad, great granddad who was loved and will be sadly missed forever. RIP.’’

Pc Claire Byrne, from West Midlands Police’s regional collision investigation unit, added: “Our thoughts are with the family of Mr Chadwick at this tragic time.

“We ask that anyone who may have witnessed the collision or have information surrounding the crash to contact us.”
