Dozens of classic motorbikes could be heard purring as they set off an annual ride from Coventry to Brighton.

It is the 51st time that members of the Vintage Motor Cycle Club’s Midlands section have made the journey to the Sussex coast.

They all met outside Coventry Transport Museum on Saturday morning before being sent on their way by the Lord Mayor of Coventry, Coun Michael Hammon.

Among those joining the ranks for the 160-mile trip was Dave Thomas from Solihull, who was riding the oldest bike on the run - a 1926 Sunbeam Longstroke.

The popular event was resurrected last year by Vintage Motor Cycle Club Midland secretary Bob Badland following a four-year hiatus after the original organiser passed away.
