Firefighters tackle blaze at Bayton Road Industrial Estate

A huge fire broken out at Bayton Road Industrial Estate this morning.

Traffic in the area has been affected as police divert vehicles away from the roads around the scene.

The blaze broke out at about 4.30am today, and firefighters were called to reports of a tyre fire at the site.

A fire engine from Bedworth was sent to tackle the flames, but the fire quickly grew in size and two more fire engines were sent to the scene.

The fire spread to an adjacent building and a fire engine with a high-rise platform had to be called into action from Leamington.

Firefighters said the blaze had hit a single storey building measuring about 25-metres by 15-metres which was used as an industrial unit.

Hose reels and main water jets, ladders and foam are in use dealing with the fire.

Police have also been called to the scene to close Bayton Road and to deal with traffic. Bayton Road is closed between the Colliery Lane junction and the B4113 Coventry Road junction.

National Express have said the number 20 bus service in the area is currently not running due to the fire.

Huge Coventry tyre company blaze was arson, police believe

Arsonists are believed to be responsible for a fire which gutted an industrial unit in Coventry which saw hundreds of tyres go up in flames.

Fire investigators have passed on evidence to police who are now leading an investigation.

The blaze took place at Lodge Tyre Company Ltd, situated on Bayton Road Industrial Estate, Exhall, at around 4.30am on Wednesday.

Officers at Warwickshire Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage in a bid to find those responsible for the attack and are appealing for people with information to get in touch.

A spokeswoman for Warwickshire Fire Service said: “Our findings have now been passed on to Warwickshire Police for their own investigation. They have also been handed CCTV footage.”

A spokeswoman for Warwickshire Police added: “We were called to reports of a fire at a premises on Bayton Road, Exhall.

“The fire was brought under control and it is currently being treated as arson.

“Investigations are ongoing to establish the cause of the fire.”

Around 20 firefighters spent hours tackling the blaze which had affected a single-storey building measuring about 25 metres by 15 metres which contained hundreds of tyres.

The Environment Agency also attended to assess the impact on the environment following the fire.

Anyone who saw anything suspicious at the yard at the time of the blaze is asked to call police on 101 quoting incident 41 of October 14.
