Coventry's University Hospital 'requires improvement'

University Hospital in Coventry has been told it needs to improve by a health watchdog.

It was rated as needing to improve over whether services were safe, well-led and responsive, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) said.

But they were rated as good in terms of services being effective and caring.

The trust, which also runs Hospital of St Cross, Rugby, said it had "put in place actions to tackle" issues since the inspection in March.

St Cross overall was rated as good, with caring, safe, effective and responsive services described as good and well-led requiring improvement.

University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust chief executive officer Andy Hardy said it was pleased inspectors recognised patients were treated with "dignity and respect".

But he said it had to acknowledge there were areas needing improvement, such as the amount of agency staff being used.

The trust said the figure for those patients and waits in accident and emergency had gone down since a week's exercise was held, when some working practices were changed.

My missus had a fall and dislocated her elbow. I really couldn't praise the ambulance and A&E staff enough.

The follow up treatment though, well that's a different matter. Things weren't what I'd call bad, but could certainly do with improving efficiency wise.
