High winds to be replaced by new snowstorms

The West Midlands is braced for more gale-force gusts like the blast which ripped up a tree in Earlsdon



Reader Lucas Brown sent in a picture to us of the tree next to the tennis courts in Spencer Park which was uprooted during last night’s blustery winds.

However, the lull as the winds ease before the weekend are set to be the calm before the storm with the blustery front followed by widespread snow and freezing temperatures expected to hit Coventry next week.

More damaging winds are predicted with possible gusts of up to 70mph before conditions become calmer as the temperatures drop.

The high winds will gradually ease tonight and veer to the north west dragging in a colder Arctic flow and bringing icy early morning driving hazards to the region.

Weekend snow showers are also predicted in the West Midlands.

The freeze will continue into next week with conditions turning a lot colder and wintry with sleet and snow, plus widespread biting frosts.

Leon Brown, chief forecaster of TV’s The Weather Channel, said: “There is a greater risk of more widespread snow next week as low pressure slides southwards over the UK.

“The detail and timing is uncertain, but potentially some moderate snowfalls are expected by the middle and latter part of next week. A bitter north east wind is also set to develop.”

Errr, it's winter and it generally gets a little cold and we see some snow!

I seriously wish that these bl**dy newspapers would stop treating us as idiots and treating normal weather as something abnormal.
