A severe sickness and diarrhoea bug has struck at Nuneaton’s George Eliot Hospital forcing strict reduced visiting hours.
Bosses at the Nuneaton NHS Trust say they are currently experiencing an ‘ increased level’ of what is known as the ‘winter vomiting disease’, putting even more pressure on the hospital which is already working at full capacity.
Those keen to visit loved ones at the hospital are being told that they can only call in between 2pm and 3pm, and from 6pm to 7pm.
These visiting restrictions are set to remain in place until at least Monday when the situation will be reviewed.
But, should the bug take further grip at the hospital, chiefs have warned that they may need to further restrict visiting hours.
A spokesperson for the hospital explained: “ If the situation worsens we may need to restrict visiting times further. In special circumstances visiting arrangements can be altered on an individual basis after discussion with the nurse in charge of the ward.
“The public are asked not to attend Accident and Emergency with symptoms of diarrhoea and/or vomiting but to manage their symptoms at home and call 111 if they require further help or advice.
“To reduce the risk of further infection being brought into the hospital visiting times are being reduced to two hours per day and families should not visit if they have had any symptoms of diarrhoea or vomiting within the previous 72 hours.”
