Boundary changes lead to new Warwickshire ward

Tue Apr 06, 2010 4:36 pm

Warwickshire voters have a new seat after changes made by the boundary commission in 2007.

The new ward, Kenilworth and Southam, is made up of parts of three other wards - Rugby and Kenilworth, Warwick and Leamington and Stratford-upon-Avon.

The Rugby and Kenilworth ward is now just known as Rugby.

The new ward, Kenilworth and Southam, has been designated by political experts as being "notionally" Conservative.

Past results

The idea of the 'notional' seat came from the Elections Centre at Plymouth University.

Staff there worked out that the changes made to the mid-Warwickshire boundaries are to the Conservatives' advantage.

To reach that conclusion the centre looked at election results in the area and those of council wards which have just joined the constituency.

They also excluded the results of wards which have left the constituency.
