Fri Mar 26, 2010 1:24 am

Drivers have been warned to expect delays on the M6 near Coventry after a crash between two cars and two lorries.

Three lanes were closed after the collision on the northbound carriageway of the motorway between junctions 3a, the turn-off for the M6 Toll, and 3.

One person was trapped in their vehicle and another was "walking wounded", West Midlands Ambulance Service said.

Ambulance crews said it was remarkable no-one was more seriously hurt given the number of vehicles involved.

Emergency services were called near to junction 3a, Coleshill, at about 0720 GMT.

Lost a wheel

Three lanes were closed but reopened at about 0930 GMT, the Highways Agency said.

"Crews arrived to find two cars, two articulated lorries carrying mobile homes and a tipper truck which had been involved in a collision," an ambulance spokesman said.

"The Volkswagen Golf was facing the wrong direction in the outside lane and a Ford Fiesta had lost one wheel and was on the hard shoulder approximately 100 yards further down the carriageway,"

The driver of the Golf, a woman in her 30s, suffered neck and leg injuries in the crash and firefighters helped remove from the vehicle before she was taken University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.

The driver of the Fiesta, a man in his 30s, suffered a minor shoulder injury and did not need hospital treatment.
