Plans have been unveiled for a £10 million mental health hospital in Coventry which could create 130 jobs.
Cygnet Health Care wants to build a 54-bed independent hospital for women on the site of the former St Mary’s School, in Lansdowne Street, Hillfields.
The company says the project would generate 130 full-time and part-time jobs. It aims to provide support for women with complex psychiatric illnesses such as personality disorders and problems with self-harm.
Any specialist support could be provided through the NHS.
There would be 32 beds in the locked rehabilitation unit, 16 beds with low security and eight beds for pre-discharge support.
The premises would also be registered, licensed and inspected by the Care Quality Commission and will adhere to the NHS Commissioning Board.
Cygnet Health Care, which runs a total of 16 clinics and hospitals with over 730 beds across the country, says it has been liaising with nearby residents ahead of the planning application which is expected to be submitted next month.
Bosses have been meeting with community members and open days at Cygnet Health Care facilities are expected to follow.
Mark Varney, director of the hospital project, said: “We are looking forward to continuing to engage with the community, and will be inviting councillors to visit our other units.
“We are really keen for people to get a true understanding of the work we do.”
