Norovirus returns to Warwick Hospital

There has been another outbreak of Norovirus at Warwick Hospital this Friday, with visiting cancelled on four wards.



No visitors are currently allowed at Squire Ward, Hatton Ward, Dugdale Ward and Malins Ward, although the hospital said exceptions will be made on compassionate grounds where the patient is seriously ill. Telephone the Ward Manager prior to visiting to discuss this possibility.

Norovirus is a seasonal viral infection which causes vomiting and diarrhoea. It is very infectious and often occurs in outbreaks in communities such as schools, institutions and families. It can be brought into hospitals and cause outbreaks on wards.

The virus spreads rapidly as a result of contact between individuals.

An NHS spokersperson said: "If you have been in contact with, or have had, diarrhoea and vomiting within the last 48 hours, you will be infectious and you should stay away from the hospital. If you are suffering from diarrhoea and vomiting, stay at home and drink plenty of fluids."
