About 50 people collected rubbish along parts of Stoney Stanton Road last week.

It was organised by Barry Worwood, chairman of the Stoney Stanton Community and Traders Association.

He said: “We had adults and their children helping out – there were lots of beer cans and bottles, broken glass and stuff probably thrown out of people’s cars.

“We needed to do something about it.

“We’re now looking to put in planters and also want to tidy up the area surrounding Eagle Street Play Centre. We had more people than the first time we did it – I think people were shocked at how much rubbish there was.”

They celebrated the clean-up with a barbecue at the Eagle Street centre, in Foleshill, after collecting 40 black bags of rubbish.

Barry added: “The support we had was very encouraging and hopefully even more people will help out in the future.”
