Police hunt after racial attack on Coventry bus

Tue Jul 17, 2012 9:38 pm

Police have released this image of a man they want to trace after a bus driver was racially abused in two separate incidents.

The comments were made on the number 13 bus between Willenhall and Whitmore Park following an altercation over a fare.

In the first incident, he got on at Binley Road around 8.20am and made racially abusive comments to the driver before punching a protective screen and getting off on Ironmonger Row.

The same person got on the same bus - being driven by the same driver - at around 5.15pm three days later. He boarded at Hales Street outside the transport museum but was refused access, provoking the man to make further threats to harm the victim.

PC Adam Goode said: "Here we have a man who thinks it's perfectly acceptable to racially abuse the driver of a bus for simply doing his job.

"Violent or threatening behaviour will not be tolerated on the public transport network or indeed anywhere in Coventry and we need to bring this person to justice.

"I would ask anyone who recognises the person in these images or who may know who is responsible for these incidents to do the right thing and give us a name.

"All public servants have the right to work without fear of violence."

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
