Funding for community projects in Nuneaton and Bedworth has been affected by a Warwickshire County Council decision to allocate money “across the board”.
It was decided by the Tory-controlled authority at Shire Hall that each councillor would have £5,000 to be spent within their own locality, instead of a proposal that grants would be given on a needs basis, for areas of deprivation.
The move has been criticised by Labour’s June Tandy.
She said: “The second option would have meant an extra £18,000-plus would have been allocated to Nuneaton and Bedworth Community Forums, compared to the more affluent areas such as Stratford.
“All the other four areas of the county gain from the first option and Nuneaton and Bedworth is the only loser. The Conservative administration, including six Tory county councillors from Nuneaton and Bedworth, agreed that funding would be equally divided, thus taking money from our borough.”
