I survived the Earlsdon powercut today.

Sat Jan 23, 2010 11:57 pm

Can I get compensation? Was very stressful. Alarms going off on Earlsdon Street and people looking bewildered. Thank goodness for the PCSO stationed on the corner with Moor Street - if he hadn't been there I'm sure anarchy would have ensued! ;)

Hey, at least you've had your bins emptied this week!

How far did did the powercut spread Peter? Were the traffic lights affected?

It is a wonder that the looters were not out in abundance but probably the Blunkett plastic scuffer put them off :rolling:
Is this a regular occurence in your area lads :?: :?:

It seemed to affect streets in the upper part of Earlsdon. Providence Street, Osborne Road, Stanley Road and some of Berkeley Road South lost power for one to two hours. On Earlsdon Street some of the shops lost power and some didn't while some only lost it briefly. Someone told me the supply system is higgledy piggledy round these parts. The side of Earlsdon Street with Coventry Building Society, chip shop etc seemed far more badly hit than the side with co-op on it.

Don't think it is a regular occurrence but perhaps an emergency plan should be drawn up for the future?
All pubs to have back-up generators and serve free beer & food to distressed locals ? :)

Thanks for the details Peter

The first house I ever lived in in Earlsdon had no electricity upstairs! (This was late 1950s). It was one of the posher houses in Earlsdon too since it did have an upstairs bathroom! What use that was since you couldn't use it after dark I never did figure out? :clown:
