HUNDREDS of people gathered for a candlelit vigil where a young dad was killed in a motorbike accident in Wood End, Coventry.

Floral tributes and messages for the 26-year-old, namedlocally as David Bird, were left at the scene and more have flooded in online.

Known to his friends and family as ‘Oink’, messages have also been graffitied on the road, along the side of buildings and on the roof of a row of shops close to where the fatal accident happened at 1pm on Saturday.

David, a father of two sons, was riding a motorbike along Hillmorton Road, Wood End, when he crashed with another motorbike, close to the junction of Wappenbury Road.

He suffered multiple injuries and had gone into cardiac arrest as paramedics arrived.

Despite the efforts of bystanders and the paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hundreds of shocked friends and relatives gathered at the scene of Sunday night for a candle-lit vigil to remember him.

The second biker involved in the accident, a 21-year-old man, suffered arm and head injuries.

It’s understood he remains in a stable condition in hospital.

Following the news of David’s death tributes have poured in on social networking site, Facebook.

Girlfriend Nicole Ullah wrote: “If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane, I’d walk right up to heaven and bring u home.

“R.I.P Oink, gonna miss ya so much but I will never ever forget u.

"I hate being away from ya, its breaking my heart but I am gonna be strong for the boys. Love ya always baby xx”
