Peter Wilson, 47, suffered a punctured lung and bled to death in the kitchen of his flat at Honiley Court, in Lillington Road, Wood End, on June 30, 2010.

His body was found two days later by his girlfriend Susan King.

At Coventry Crown Court yesterday, Mr Wilson’s neighbours and drinking buddies, Dana Webb, 34, and Raymond McEnery, 55, both of Binswood Close, Wood End, went on trial accused of his murder.

McEnery denies a further charge of attempting to pervert the course of justice by dumping the alleged murder weapon in a drain.

Opening the case for the prosecution, Adrian Keeling QC told the jury of seven men and five women that the couple had gone round to Mr Wilson’s flat to “confront him” over a previous argument.

“Once in the flat he was attacked by them and at a stage when Raymond McEnery held him, Dana Webb stabbed him in the back with a kitchen knife.

“It was a six-inch knife that was thrust almost its entire length into his back and into his lung.

“They then left the flat, leaving him fatally wounded to collapse and die.

“As they left, Raymond McEnery took the bloodied knife from Dana Webb, his girlfriend, and threw it down a drain to protect them from what they had done.”

The barrister said the victim had suffered numerous other minor injuries, including a small puncture wound, various areas of scraped skin, and bruises to his eyes and arm.

Mr Keeling said: “Peter Wilson had not just suffered a major fatal stab wound to his back, but also a series of other injuries, some perhaps innocently explicable, others more certainly worrying.

“The point is these injuries may well lead to the conclusion that not only was he assaulted, but the knife used to stab him was used more than once.”

The court heard Mr Wilson was injured in the living room but died in the kitchen.

The jury saw photos of the alleged murder scene, the victim’s blood-soaked rugby top, a block of knives with two missing, and the alleged murder weapon in the drain.

Mr Keeling said the defendants had “sought to wriggle away from the evidence as it emerged bit by bit” and had “contradicted each other and themselves.”

“They told whatever lies they thought they would have to to get away with what they did.”

The trial continues.

Girlfriend of Wood End 'murder' victim Peter Wilson gives evidence on second day of trial

THE girlfriend of a stabbing victim has told a trial how one of the defendants rang her twice after the alleged killing.

Susan King was giving evidence at Coventry Crown Court yesterday on the second day of the trial of Dana Webb, 34, and Raymond McEnery, 55.

The couple, of Binswood Close, Wood End, are alleged to have stabbed and killed drinking buddy Peter Wilson, 47, at his flat on Wednesday, June 30, 2010.

McEnery denies a further charge of attempting to pervert the course of justice by dumping the alleged murder weapon in a drain.

Mr Wilson’s body was not found until the afternoon of Friday, July 2.

Ms King told the jury that Webb called her on Thursday, July 1, saying Mr Wilson had hit her with his walking stick the day before, and that McEnery had punched him.

The witness said: “She said to me ‘before Pete tells you, I want to tell my side of the story.’

“She said they had a row, a disagreement, and that Pete was ranting and raving.

“She said Pete hit her with his walking stick and Ray punched him for hitting her.

“I thought that’s not like Pete to be doing that.

“I was shocked because that’s not the sort of person he was.”

She added: “Pete would rather walk away from someone rather than do that.

“If we ever argued he would rather walk round the block and come back and sit down and talk about what happened.

“No way would he lash out.”

Ms King said she got a further call from Webb the next day to say she had just seen Mr Wilson walking to the shops.

“She said she saw Pete going to the shops on Friday morning past her house.

“I thought that was unusual because he doesn’t normally go that way.”

Mr Wilson, of Honiley Court, Lillington Road, Wood End, suffered a single six-inch deep stab wound to the back which punctured his lung, causing him the bleed to death.

He had numerous other minor injuries, including a small puncture wound, various areas of scraped skin, and bruises to his eyes and arm.

The jury heard from Mr Wilson’s friend Terence Williamson, who stayed at his flat the night before he died.

Mr Williamson said he had been helping Mr Wilson curb his alcohol intake.

He said he also liked to keep an eye on his friend because he had epilepsy and was on medication.

The trial continues.
