To coincide with the Christmas lights switch on event the Millennium Place museum will host camper vans and motor homes – including one that will act as Santa’s grotto for the day.

The event will also see the first movie shown on the nearby big screen – with families invited to wrap up warm, bring a chair and watch The Muppet Christmas Carol.

After the film characters from the Belgrade Theatre’s Christmas pantomime will present the prizes for the most festively decorated camper vans

The Dayspring Steel Band will play Christmas and Caribbean songs from 3.30-5.30pm.

Clive Skelhon, from the museum, said: “We’re expecting around 20 camper vans and motor homes turning out – but there could be more. If more want to come they are welcome, we’ve got the space.

“It’s the first time we’ve had a film screened here so we’re hoping that lots of people come along and enjoy it.”

Can't say I'm too happy myself about a display of foreign-built vehicles at an institution which is supposed to celebrate British manufacturing
