Suffolk Police said burglar Craig Lynch, 28, who absconded from Hollesley Bay Prison on 23 September, was arrested in Kent on Tuesday night.

He has been charged with escaping from lawful custody and was remanded in custody at Bexleyheath magistrates.

Lynch is to appear at Woolwich Crown Court on 20 January. He had a Facebook following of more than 40,000 people.

It is believed Lynch posted comments about his life on the outside on the site.

'Belongs in prison'

One of the posts, which was written on Christmas Day, read: "Wow it really is xmas ha ha i can't believe i made it."

Lynch was belittled by some angry internet users who tried to encourage him to hand himself in after almost four months on the run.

Now posts can be seen on the site rejoicing in his capture.

A post written by internet user Glen Cliff read: "Now he is back where he belongs in prison. enjoy the added few years added to ya sentence, now its the police turn to laugh at you."

Police said Lynch was serving a seven-year sentence after being convicted of aggravated burglary.

If it was up to me the prisoners would be up at dawn every morning clearing snow and emptying wheelie bins instead of lying in a warm cosy cell being waited-on hand and foot.
