Appeal over mystery SAS war hero from Coventry...

Researcher are appealing for information about a mystery SAS hero from Coventry who died in World War Two.



The medic is believed to have been captured and killed during a raid on the Libyan port of Benghazi in September 1942.

But incomplete records, and the fact he had only just joined the unit, means he has remained nameless, and is not recorded on any memorial.

Skip O’Donovan, of the SAS Association, said the mystery medic went to Barkers Butts Secondary School and may have been nicknamed Ritchie or Razorblade.

He said: “The story of this very special man and former local resident should be highlighted so that he may be remembered fully, and take his rightful place on the roll of honour.”

The medic was part of a group of 100 men who set off from Egypt across the Sand Sea for Libya.

During the raid four men were too seriously wounded to move and the medic stayed behind with them.
