Police are trying to find a gunman on a motorbike who fired shots at a car in the middle of Coventry.
The passenger of a blue and white Suzuki ended up missing the BMW and sent bullets flying through the shutters of a shop on Trinity Street near the Flying Standard pub just before midnight on Sunday.
No-one was hurt.
Police think there were witnesses – Detective Inspector Sharon Naughton has issued an appeal:
“We’ve examined CCTV footage and know that another vehicle emerged from a cul-de-sac near the pub shortly after the shooting, whilst two men are seen walking at the top of The Burgess as the bike and BMW drove off.
“We’d really like to speak these people as they may have important information – but we also want to hear from anyone who was in the vicinity at the time or saw two people on a blue and white motorbike acting suspiciously in the city centre.”
Both the bike and the dark-coloured car drove away down The Burgess following the shooting.
Det Insp Naughton, added: “Luckily no-one was hurt – but when anyone is reckless enough to discharge a firearm in a public place there is always the danger of people becoming innocent victims.”
Anyone with information can call DI Naughton at Coventry Force CID on 0345 113 5000. You can also phone the charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
