Residents are furious at drivers leaving their cars blocking the quiet cul-de-sac while shopping and working in the city centre.

They claim the problem is getting worse in Morningside, near Spencer Park, with some drivers abandoning cars for weeks while they go on holiday from nearby Coventry train station.

It comes after residents missed a rubbish collection last week when a binmen were unable to drive a refuse lorry between parked cars.

Philip Nicholls, a retired Coventry University academic who lives in Morningside, said: “This is a narrow residential cul-de-sac being invaded and it’s got considerably worse in the last five years.

“People leave their car here all day and sometimes for several days while they go on holiday, they just don’t care. It impedes access for delivery and emergency vehicles. Over the last few years the parking has become intolerable.”

Residents say delivery lorries containing large items such as white goods are unable to access much of the street and are calling on Coventry City Council to act.
