An honest customer had a lucky outing to Tesco in Warwick as he found himself driving off with a full tank of petrol for less than £20.
Roger Cleal noticed something was wrong as he began to pump diesel into his car at the supermarket’s filling station last Friday afternoon.
He said: “The numbers in litres were rising faster than the pounds - it’s usually the reverse.”
Not wanting to be accused of theft, Mr Cleal told the cashier, expecting her to tell him his bill was £67.15, not the amount on the pump of £19.20.
He said the cashier, realising she had set the pumps to 40p/litre instead of 140p/litre, raced around the forecourt to re-set them, before returning to the till and taking the £19.20 he was due to pay.
