There were tears aplenty as Potters Green School was transformed in to an around-the-world experience for the 58-year-old’s last day on Friday.

She now plans to travel the world during her well-earned retirement.

Around 380 smiling faces gave Sue a guard of honour as she stepped out of a classic 1923 Ford Model-T, hired to drive her in.

“I’m just overwhelmed,” she said.

“I’m completely lost for words – and that’s unusual for me. I had no idea what they were planning or how I was going to get in today. All I knew was I had to bring a suitcase.”

The ‘cabin crew’ took travel lover Sue’s luggage before she was directed through passport control to spend time with every year group.

Pupils from each school year hosted festivities to the theme of a different international tourist destination; including New York, Sydney, the Maldives, Morocco and Devon – where Sue was born.

In between visits to each ‘destination’, the mother-of-three was directed to a special plane in the school hall, where pupils provided in-flight entertainment.
