Up to 150 jobs at risk at Rugby engineering firm

Over a hundred jobs could go at a Rugby company making blades for wind turbines because of a big dip in sales.



Alstom on Newbold Road employs 1,000 people across its power and transport businesses.

In a statement a spokesperson said: “Following a downturn in the global power generation equipment industry, international engineering company Alstom has confirmed a review of the impact on its Rugby manufacturing facility.

“A 90 day consultation period with 253 potentially affected employees is now underway, the outcome of which could see the loss of up to 150 manufacturing and related jobs at the site in Newbold Road in Rugby, which produces industrial blades and services for turbines used in power stations.

“Where suitable roles are available elsewhere in Alstom, employees will be offered alternative roles. All affected employees will be able request voluntary redundancy and will be offered expert career counselling and specialist support to find other work.”

A 90-day consultation is due to end in June.
