EDF Energy Renewables have confirmed they’re following in the footsteps of Broadview and asking permission to put up equipment to test wind strength for a windfarm in South Warwickshire.
The company want to erect a 70 metre structure at a site near Wormleighton in Southam.
It it’s approved it would go up in the summer and would help them decide if there’s enough wind there for a 13 turbine windfarm.
It follows the news last week that another firm, Broadview, had successfully won an appeal to have a mast at Lower Spring Farm at Bishops Itchington, where they are thinking of applying for a 7 turbine windfarm, where each structure would be the height of the London Eye.
The mast there will go up in the next few weeks.
A consultation will soon be held with the local community on the EDF scheme and as well as a wind mast application they have asked Stratford District Council to read a report looking at the windfarm application papers before they are submitted.
EDF ER’s Development Manager for the project, Darren Cuming‚ said: “The scoping report and wind monitoring mast application are an important step in assessing the feasibility of the Stoneton wind farm project.
“We are still in the early stages of developing a detailed proposal for this site and will be carrying out further investigative work over the coming months. As part of this process we will of course be seeking the views of the local community and further details of our consultation programme will be announced shortly.”
